Verification of Certificates/Searches
A PPSR search result is not only valid at the time of the first search. On the contrary, you can use the PPSR search report to retrieve results from the Personal Property Securities Register. All you need for that process is the search number of the PPSR Certificate issued at the time of the first search.
Why Validate a Search?
There are a number of reasons why you an individual would choose to validate a PPSR search.
As a buyer of a used car, a search verification is essential as it provides a means for you to better protect yourself from buying a stolen or financed vehicle. It is typical for buyers to conduct their own PPSR searches when purchasing second-hand vehicles from private sellers or an auction. However, when buying from a dealership, verifying a search could mean the difference between buying a lemon or an investment. You can validate a search conducted by a car dealer to ensure that you purchase a good car without financial or legal burdens.
PPSR Check validation also allows the holder of a PPSR Certificate to verify that the details on the search results are accurate. When you verify a search just before following through with a purchase, you can be sure you have the most recent information on that vehicle.
Generating another certificate is also another reason why you can choose to verify your search results and PPSR Certificate. Verifying your PPSR search also affords you the opportunity to view your results online in case you do not have a copy of the PPSR Certificate with you and need it.
Process
Unlike PPSR searches which you can conduct from Quick Revs, verification of PPSR certificates and searches has to be done through the Personal Property Securities Register. You will need the search number on the PPSR Certificate to proceed with the search.
The process for verifying a search is simple. What you have to do is log onto the PPSR and key in the search number for the PPSR Certificate, located on the top left-hand side of the document. The site will provide you with the PPSR and NEVDIS details of the car you are purchasing.
A point of note when retrieving a search done by you or anyone else: the verification search will show details as they were at the time the first search was conducted. Additional details will not be displayed on the retrieved search report.
